Hazardous environment refers to a place that may contain explosive gases or mixtures of fine powder. Electrical equipment may ignite these mixtures if sparks or high temperatures are generated during the operation of the equipment. All equipment in the intrinsically safe system is cleverly designed and installed so that it does not produce enough energy to ignite a potentially explosive gas mixture, even under fault conditions.
